WHERE TO RIDE?

Several operations are planned throughout the rest of May (and into early June) that will result in significant trail closures BUT most of them only for a couple of weeks so you’ll be on your bike again in no time!  This overview is here to help you stay up to date on which trails are open, closed, and where you can ride. Please stay safe by following all trail closure signage, fencing, and notifications. When in doubt—don’t ride!

What’s going on?

  • Tasman Pine Forests Ltd has a forestry operation underway from now until near the end of the year.  For rider safety Central Rd is closed and Sharlands Road is closed during weekdays (open to the 3km mark during the weekends)
  • The Nelson City Council has contractors lined up to complete the annual cull.  This is to reduce the number of ungulates (deer, pigs, goats etc) throughout Nelson’s Parks and reserves as they damage ecosystems, and our trails!
  • Tasman Pine Forests LTD has a mulching operation planned to remove ground cover.  Thankfully most of this work with coincide with the annual cull so only limited extra trail closures will occur.
The Good News – Where to ride?
Luckily for us, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to places to ride. Many trails will also open for the weekend. The following areas are still available for riding over the remainder of May

  • Weekends: Codgers, Koata Park, Fringed Hill, Kaka Face trails, Maitai Face trails
  • The Gorge
  • Maitai Face  (EXCEPT for 2 overnight closures to allow culling operations from 4PM Thurs 15 May to 6AM Fri 16 May and again 4PM Fri 16 May to 6AM Sat 17 May)
  • Branford Park Jumps
  • Cable Bay Adventure Park
