Venue Information
Nelson boasts world-class trails that range from smooth, flowing berms to steep, technical descents—and everything in between. You’ll ride through stunning native bush, down rugged rock faces, and along loamy tracks winding through pine forest. With so much variety, we highly recommend taking the time to visit Nelson for a practice lap or two. It’ll help you make the most of your experience and truly enjoy what our trails have to offer.
NZSS – Event Village
All events in the 2025 Cycling New Zealand Secondary School Mountain Bike Champs will be based from the Event Village in the Maitai Valley. The Event Village is next to the Maitai Valley Motor Camp and offers a beautiful setting with parking nearby, access to the trails and easy shuttle pick up points. There will be onsite toilets, water and coffee!
We will have limited space available to gazebos/tents. Please let us know if your school is after gazebo space by completing this form. For the bigger schools we will do our best to give you double sites.
Practice for the event
Trails being used for this event span many different riding areas. Many of our trails are on privately owned land that riders can access 24/7 with no need for a permit. Please be respectful of this privileged by leaving gates as you find them and respecting signage out on trails.
DH – The DH trail is under construction with a planned opening date in July. The trail hasn’t been officially named yet but will be known as DT25 for now.
XO/XC Relay – The XCO/Relay course is under construction with a planned opening in late July.
The enduro trails are all existing favourite Nelson trails. They will all be open for riders to practice on leading up to the event, other than when maintenance is in progress.
