Welcome to the 2025 New Zealand Secondary Schools Mountain Bike Champs, proudly hosted by the Nelson Mountain Bike Club (NMTBC)!
Taking place in the heart of Nelson, this exciting event will bring together over 600 riders from across New Zealand for four days of competition. Riders will showcase their skills in Enduro, Downhill, Cross Country, and the Cross Country Team Event, making it an unforgettable experience for both participants and spectators.
This event is open to intermediate and secondary school aged students nationwide, and it’s an incredible opportunity to experience the world-class trails that make Nelson a mountain biking mecca. Mountain biking is a huge part of Nelson’s culture, with over 3,000 members in NMTBC and thousands more hitting the trails regularly. The event provides a platform to highlight our stunning trails and vibrant biking community.

● Who: Open to intermediate and secondary school aged students across New Zealand.
Course details:
The event village will be at the Maitahi Wetland on Maitai Valley Road. The Enduro trails will be released as soon as the course is finalised. A new DH course is under construction as is the XC course.
The Event will be based in the Maitai Valley with the event village at the Mahitahi Wetland, which marked on the the map. Parking will be available in the Maitai Camp.
The Cross Country course is under construction. It will be based from the Event Village in the Maitai and use a mixture of new and existing trails.
The Enduro Course is still being finalised but will be on trails shown above, throughout the Codgers, Koata Park and Maitai Face. Final course expected Mid May.
The Downhill will be on one Nelson's original trails. It is currently under reconstruction. Many locals remember the trail being one of their favourites of all time!
The event manual will be available at the start of June. This will include further information about the event, trails, parking and more.
