Nelson's Trails - grades and how many

We often get asked about the kind of trails Nelson has, and how many there are of each grade. With so many great trails in a variety of riding spots, and people tending to just ride what they like and not have a clear picture of the whole network, we thought it would be a good idea to look at the data and turn the trail info into a few graphics that tell the story nice and clearly.

We have included all NMTBC built/managed trails and also a couple of NCC managed trails (Dun Mountain Trail, Widdershins, Involution) as they are very much part of our local network.

We haven't included the extensive Silvan Forest network, or Kaiteriteri, as these areas are not managed by NMTBC and we really want this to be a snapshot of what the club is responsible for. It goes without saying that these two areas alone have a massive amount of grade 2, 3 and 4 trails that are available for everyone to enjoy.

So - how does it look:

Number of trails

Please note: the numbers on this chart do not relate to trail grade, they reference the spreadsheet linked below (1= grade 2, 2 = grade 3, 3 = grade 4, 4 = grade 5, 5 = grade 6).

You can see the full list of trails we have included in this analysis here.

As always massive thanks to the landowners/managers that allow us to build trails and have fun on their land - Ngati Koata, Nelson City Council, DoC, Tasman Pine Forests.
