The school holidays have started, and this time not in isolation, so my family decided to go
down south. Apparently we hadn’t spent enough time together in lockdown. It was fine not
having a bike in Ashburton, as it is Ashburton, but having to go through Dunedin and
Queenstown was a crying shame.
The ‘night ride season’ was partially lost due to the pandemic, so I thought I’d better make up for
that by going for a few extra rides with my dad’s mostly 50+ year-old riding group. Although I’m
still not the biggest fan of riding in the dark and the freezing cold, there are compensations.
Silver ferns look nice in the light of a headlamp and so Waterloo at Sharlands is definitely worth
a go at night. Seeing the aged Pete gracefully ride down the trails on his new bike is quite nice
too. He’s got an odd uphill style though.
The hardtail build is gathering momentum. I'm just taking my time.
