Economic benefits of Mountain Biking for Nelson
Posted by Paul Jennings on 21 March 2018
Here are some interesting facts for you:
- In total $17.1 million of new and retained spending will occur annually as a result of the mountain bike trails in the Nelson-Tasman region.
- The total annual economic impact in ten years time will be $39.5 million in GDP and the total employment of 538 FTEs.
These are just two of the headline statements from an economic impact study released today by Nelson City Council, which it commissioned BERYL to prepare so the council can better understand the benefits mountain biking brings to our region. This information will help guide future financial decisions Nelson City Council makes on relevant maintenance and infrastructure projects.
Nelson Mountain Bike Club contributed to this report and we are delighted to see that the output is very much in line with the message we have been promoting for decades. Mountain biking is not only a fantastic sport and hobby but has far-reaching economic benefits. With a bit of effort, the returns for our region will be significant and we are delighted to be able to say that NMTBC and NCC are working hard to realise them.
