Who's up for a ride in Codgers?
If you're like us you've missed going for a razz around Codgers since it was badly damaged in the storm. Well, be sad no longer - as of today the Codgers MTB park is back open. Sure - there have been some big changes, and some of the trails are still very badly damaged or have been lost altogether, but there's still plenty to bring a smile to your face.
Access is now open from the Westbrook Terrace end of the reserve, as well as Andrew's Field (riding school), Atmore Terrace and the Maitai side. You can ride along Pipeline to Jacks Hub and then up either of the climbing tracks to the Firball skid. From there you have the choice of IV Line, Turners or up to the top of Firball. Gully is also open. Remember, if you're riding IV or Turners you'll need your Hancock forest permit with you.
P51, Tusk and Pipilini are all pretty badly damaged, or unrideable, so best avoided for now.
Nelson City Council, through its contractor Nelmac, has been flat out trying to get the reserve open and it has done a fantastic job. Nelmac is back in again next week to finish up so keep an eye out for any signs restricting access. Then it's up to NMTBC and you, our army of willing volunteers, to get in there and get things running how we want them to. Keep an eye out for working bee notices on here and our Facebook page.
With the weather looking great this weekend we'll probably go for a look around and might see you out there. Have an explore, be vigilant to the changes and have some fun!
