Codgers redevelopment - stage 1
Posted by Paul Jennings on 14 March 2017
It's been a few years in the planning but the first stage of the Codgers redevelopment has started - and we couldn't be more excited.
Tomorrow, work will start on an easy grade 3 trail that will run from Jack's Hub down the hill to meet up with the start of Walnut. NMTBC is investing over $10k in this trail and has appointed Easy Trail Solutions to manage the build. The team at ETS was chosen based on their considerable experience making awesome trails that are really fun to ride. They worked at Wairoa Gorge, helped build the Kaiteriteri trail Big Airs, had a hand in Widdershins and have worked on a number of our other trails as volunteers.
The new trail will take approx. five weeks to build - please stay off it until it is complete, it's an active work site and we need to ensure everyone's safety.
This new trail will mean that the zig-zag climbing track that runs from the Dun Mountain Trail up to Jack's Hub will be decommissioned and a new easier grade climbing trail will be built instead to take people up to Jack's Hub. As a result the old zig-zag climbing trail will not be usable. Please use the Dun Mountain Trail and Pipeline to access Jack's Hub area in the mean time.
A short grade 2 climbing trail is also currently being constructed to take riders from Andrew's Field back onto the Dun Mountain Trail near the quarry. Fulton Hogan is building this and it will be an important component in the much-needed family loop that we have planned for Codgers.
We have more good news that we are looking forward to telling you all about really soon. Many years of planning and hard work are finally resulting in some new trails to suit a wide range of riders, which is what many of you asked for in our recent rider survey and as part of your annual plan submissions last year.
