Wairoa Gorge OPEN DAY

December 11 9:00 am December 12 5:00 pm NZDT

11TH & 12TH DECEMBER – OPEN WEEKEND

Saturday, open day for shuttles + two optional super D stages. Sunday, Nelsons first Ebike only race!

The Wairoa Gorge Bike Park, along with Nelson Mountain Bike Club, is hosting an open weekend on the 11th & 12th December. Showcasing our trails, accommodation and spectacular environment. Our aim is to encourage mountain bikers, but also hikers, families and other potential users, to come and see what is happening in the beautiful Wairoa valley, whether that’s a lap of the trails, a walk to the waterfall or a dip in the river!

Saturday, open day with something for everyone!

We will be running revolving shuttles for the whole day, so bikers just need to roll up and pay a koha to get a lift up to Irvine’s. It is 1 lift per person, however climbing trails will be open and marked so once people are at Irvine’s they can pedal as many laps of the upper mountain before descending to the valley floor. There will be two super D style stages marked out with timing gates, you can enter on the day for an extra $10 and ride one or both of the stages as part of your total ride.

Sunday, Nelsons first ever Ebike only event!

REGISTER NOW – choose your uplift time, then get out on your bike and practice some single track climbing! Race trails will be announced soon…

Racing will be enduro style, racing individually, with multiple timed loops including descents and ascents plus one ‘ king climb stage’.  Riders will be required to pre enter and pick a shuttle time on entry to avoid people waiting for shuttles at base.

Riders will be lifted to Irvine’s where the race starts. The course is designed to test climbing/ descending skill and battery management! The course will keep riders mostly on the upper mountain, once they have raced they can choose any trail back to Barrys.

Event Base

We aim to have a small event village operating at Barrys Flat both days, there will be information tents and people to talk to about NMTBC and Wairoa. The walking trail to the waterfall will be marked and there are awesome swimming holes if the weather plays ball. We are looking into more family friendly activities. Both Gorge accommodation buildings will also be open to walk through and check out, that’s both Barrys and Gibbs lodges.

There will be two Golden tickets to give away over the course of the weekend, each ticket will give the winner one nights accommodation + 1 day of private shuttles for 8 people!
