Wairoa Gorge OPEN DAY

Saturday, open day for shuttles + two optional super D stages.

The Wairoa Gorge Bike Park, along with Nelson Mountain Bike Club, is hosting an open weekend on the 11th & 12th December. Showcasing our trails, accommodation and spectacular environment. Our aim is to encourage mountain bikers, but also hikers, families and other potential users, to come and see what is happening in the beautiful Wairoa valley, whether that’s a lap of the trails, a walk to the waterfall or a dip in the river! 

We will be running revolving shuttles for the whole day, so bikers just need to roll up and pay a koha to get a lift up to Irvine’s. It is 1 lift per person, however climbing trails will be open and marked so once people are at Irvine’s they can pedal as many laps of the upper mountain before descending to the valley floor. There will be two super D style stages marked out with timing gates, you can enter on the day for an extra $10 and ride one or both of the stages as part of your total ride.

Event Base

We aim to have a small event village operating at Barrys Flat, there will be information tents and people to talk to about NMTBC and Wairoa. The walking trail to the waterfall will be marked and there are awesome swimming holes if the weather plays ball. We are looking into more family friendly activities. Both Gorge accommodation buildings will also be open to walk through and check out, that’s both Barrys and Gibbs lodges.

There will be a Golden ticket to give away over the course of the open day, the ticket will give the winner one nights accommodation + 1 day of private shuttles for 8 people!
