MTBNZ National Downhill – Round Three

Overview
Nelson Mountain Bike Club is excited to host the 3rd round of the 2023 National DH series in collaboration with MTBNZ and presented by Santa Cruz.
Held on Nelson’s anniversary weekend, the 28th & 29th of January will showcase some of New Zealand’s top downhill riders along with many of our country’s up-and-coming athletes. With all this talent in Nelson at the same time, spectators are in for an action-packed weekend of racing with over $5000 in prize money up for grabs.
Riders will have a chance to familiarise themselves with the course, find their lines, and ramp up their pace on Friday before the official practice runs start at 9am Saturday for non-UCI categories. After riders have had this chance to warm up on Saturday morning, seeding runs will commence after lunch followed by race runs which are expected to finish at 4 pm.
Sunday will see the riders in UCI categories hit the trail with a similar timeline to Saturday’s racing. If you are in Nelson and want to see the nation’s riders do what they do best then be sure to make it down for the afternoon seeding and race runs on both Saturday & Sunday.
Directions for spectators are as follows:
Timeline – Racing is from 12-4 pm Saturday & Sunday
Parking – Entry to parking will be on the corner of Brooks Street and Hockey place. Parking is very limited so we urge spectators to bike to the event.
Finding a spot to watch – There will be loads of actions at the finish line but there will also be volunteers directing spectators to the track to enjoy the trailside action.
