NMTBC in collaboration with Ngāti Koata welcomes you to attend a special social ride and hui to celebrate Matariki: the Māori new year. Meeting in Andrew’s Field/Codger’s Hub at 4pm on Saturday July 10th, we will ride up to the beginning of Te Tirohanga Whetū o Koata (Koata Whetū). Here we will gather to have a sausage sizzle, kōrero about Matariki, sing a waiata, and watch the sunset over Whakatū. The fearless will then ride down Koata Whetū, night lights ablaze to reflect Matariki in the night sky!
Those less darkness-inclined are encouraged to ride down earlier while rā still lights the way.
This will be a fun, social and family oriented ride and an opportunity to learn a bit about Tikanga Māori, Matariki, and Mana Whenua.
