NZ SECONDARY MTB CHAMPS – 2024
The New Zealand Secondary School Mountain Bike Champs were held at the Christchurch Adventure Park during the October school holidays. Over 600 students took part in the event from 126 schools from all over NZ. The event includes and Enduro, Cross Country, Cross Country Rely and Downhill. Riders can choose which events they’d like to participate in.
Over 50 local Nelson Tasman riders participated at the event and made Nelson, and our club very proud. I felt especially proud at the way in which our local riders have a sense of camaraderie as a group both from within their schools and between schools, the respect they show race officials, volunteers and riders from other schools, and the support they give to one another. On top of the high level of personal conduct shown they raced exceptionally!
Many riders achieved top 3 placings both within each discipline and overall. Nelson Intermediate placed first overall in the year 7/8 category in New Zealand and Nelson College for Girls placed third in the overall category (including single sex and co-ed schools) for years 9 – 13. We can’t wait to host this even in Nelson next year. It will showcase our region and our trails to riders from all over New Zealand, give significant financial benefits to local communities and will accelerate new trail construction.
