Highlight of the month
We were not prepared for such a big turn out to the Broken Axe dig day! With over 40 of our members, armed with gloves and great attitudes, the trail was running mint in no time at all! It was really great to see all of the younger generation keen to get involved and help us maintain the huge trail network we have here in Nelson. A massive thanks to Justin, Jack, Kurt, Kieran and Marty who were helping lead on the day. A few superstars even stayed behind to clear the trees down on Kaka, which is now also rideable (apart from the last jump).
The shuttle day was slightly wetter than anticipated, however good times were had by a few hard cores who weren’t afraid of a little water. Everyone was stoked to have the trail back up and running. There was even talk of a DH race needing to happen, now that we have a trail up and running…
What’s coming up?
As mentioned above, construction of the new Skills park in Codgers is underway! The purpose of the skills park is to create a safe and engaging space for mountain bikers of all ages, and skill levels, to come together and practice their skills. As riders’ skills progress, they will be able to attempt more challenging features on the trails. This project is being driven by the Nelson Mountain Bike Club and has been made possible through support from Nelson City Council, The Lion Foundation, South Pine, Donaldson Civil, Fulton Hogan, Nelson Environment Centre and Living Trails.
Trail openings and closures
Open: Broken Axe and Kaka! Please take care exiting these trails as the exits have changed. P51 is open again after a major reworks thanks to the Nelson City Council and Living Trails. Enjoy the wide smooth berms and flow!
Closed: Te Ara Rere o Koata (Koata Rere) and Lower Firball (from middle road) are closed and will remain closed until they dry out. These trails are easily damaged when ridden wet. Lower Te Ara Kopiko is also closed due to a slip.
