If you ride fast, your eyewear needs to keep up. That’s the simple message from Julian Matthews at Matthews Sports Vision.
One thing they see a lot: riders using polarised sunglasses. Great for driving or fishing – not so great on the trail. Polarised lenses can flatten out reflections, which makes it harder to pick up roots, rocks, and changes in terrain.
Instead, they recommend lenses that adapt to changing light. Photochromic lenses are a solid option for most trail riders, especially if you’re moving between shade and open sections.
If you’re riding downhill at higher speeds, lens response time matters more – you want something that adjusts quickly as light conditions change.
IKeen to try a few pairs? Bring your helmet into the store so you can get the fit right. They can also help with replacement lenses and parts down the track.
Matthews Sports Vision is a long-standing family business based in Buxton Square. They love the trails as much as we do, and we’re proud to have them alongside us as a platinum sponsor of the club.
