Downhill Series Wrap

With the first few DH rounds cancelled due to Covid-19, it was awesome to finally get some DH racing action underway for 2020. The first race was the one-off Nelson DH Champs on Fringed Hill. With the weather looking like it would hold out all week, riders woke Saturday morning to steady rain, making track conditions slippery and riding challenging. Still a few hardy riders turned up for a fun day of racing. In the end it was Brooke Robertson (Female) and Aidan Limmer (Male) who would tame the tricky conditions to come away as Nelson DH Camps for 2020.
On Sunday riders would head out to Cable Bay Adventure Park to race for final series points for the Top of The South DH series 2020 (Taylor Forest & Jentree were the first 2 rounds in Marlborough). The track chosen to race was ‘Pine Line’. With steep chutes and tricky corners mixed with more heavy rain this track was sure to keep riders on their toes! Unfortunately due to injuries, quarantining & other commitments none of the female riders from the first 2 rounds were unable to make the series final. In the men's race it would go down to the wire with Shannon Hewetson and Aidan Limmer fighting it out for the overall honours. In the final run Shannon would pip Aidan by just one second to take out TOTS DH Champ for 2020.
A huge thanks to all the volunteers over the 2 days, timers, drivers, marshalls, medics. You are all stars for standing in the pouring rain to ensure we can run these races, Cheers!
